DermVerdict Privacy Policy
The short version. DermVerdict works without an account, and as a guest nothing about you leaves your phone. If you choose to sign in, we keep the email address or phone number you sign in with, an account id, and the products you mark as favourites, so that your favourites follow you to another phone. We use that for nothing else, we never sell or share it, there are no analytics or ads, and you can delete all of it from inside the app.
What DermVerdict is
DermVerdict is an iPhone app that indexes what dermatologists have said about skincare products in their public YouTube videos. Its product database is downloaded to your phone and searched there.
Using the app as a guest
Signing in is optional. As a guest, the app collects no personal information. Your favourites and recent searches are stored only on your phone. The app's network requests are limited to downloading its own product database, and to loading video thumbnails and product photos from the services named under "Other services" below.
If you sign in
You can create an account with a one-time code sent to your email address or phone number. There is no password. When you do, we hold the following, each linked to your account:

Favourites you saved as a guest are moved into your account when you first sign in on that phone. Your recent searches stay on your phone and are never uploaded.
Nothing else is collected. The app has no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind, and it does not read your contacts, location, or photos. The camera, if you allow it, is used only to scan barcodes on your phone; no images are stored or sent anywhere.
How your information is used
Only to sign you in and to keep your favourites in sync. We do not use it for marketing, we do not build profiles, and we do not sell, rent, or share it with anyone, except the service providers below who process it on our behalf.
Where it is stored and who can reach it
Account information and favourites are stored by Supabase in a database hosted in the United States (AWS us-east-1). Access to your favourites is restricted by database rules to your own signed-in session; no other user of the app can read them. The email or text message carrying your sign-in code is delivered by a messaging provider on our behalf and is used only for that delivery.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your email address, phone number, account id, and all of your favourites are deleted from our systems at the same time. Backups held by our hosting provider expire on their normal schedule.
Deleting your account
Open the account screen (the person icon on the home screen), choose Delete account, and confirm. This is immediate and cannot be undone. Favourites saved to the account are removed from the phone as well. Signing out, by contrast, keeps your account and your favourites for the next time you sign in.
Other services the app talks to
- Supabase hosts the sign-in service, the favourites database, and the published product database the app downloads. Downloads of the product database are anonymous.
- YouTube serves the video thumbnails shown on product pages (
img.youtube.com). Tapping a video opens it in YouTube or your browser, which are governed by their own policies. - Open Beauty Facts serves product photos for scanned barcodes.
Loading an image from any service reveals your IP address to that service, as with any web request. None of these requests include your account, your favourites, or anything you have typed.
Children
DermVerdict is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. A change that affects how your information is used will also be announced inside the app.
